What To Expect On Your First Visit To Alpha Physiotherapy

If you have never seen a physiotherapist before, the first visit can feel like an unknown. Here is exactly what happens at Alpha Physiotherapy so you can walk in knowing what to expect.

Before you arrive

No referral needed. You can book directly by phone or through the website. A GP referral is only required for certain insurance or care plans.
Wear or bring comfortable clothing that lets us see and move the affected area - shorts for a knee or hip problem, a vest top for a shoulder or neck problem.
Bring any scans or reports you already have (X-ray, MRI, blood tests), but they are not essential.

The assessment (about 45 to 60 minutes)

Your first appointment is longer than follow-ups because we do a full assessment:

Your story. When it started, what makes it better or worse, how it affects your work, sleep and daily life, and what you want to get back to.
Physical examination. We look at how you move, test the joint and muscle strength and length, and check the areas above and below the painful spot - problems are often referred from elsewhere.
Explanation. We tell you what we think is going on, in plain language, and what the realistic timeline for recovery looks like.

Treatment on day one

Most people receive some hands-on treatment at the first visit - mobilisation, soft-tissue work, dry needling or taping where appropriate - plus two or three exercises to start straight away. You will leave with a clear plan, not just “come back next week.”

Payment

There is nothing to pay to confirm a booking. You settle in cash at reception at the end of your first visit. Online payment options are coming soon.
