Female Physiotherapy
Women’s bodies go through changes that general physiotherapy doesn’t always account for, from pregnancy through to postnatal recovery, pelvic floor health, and the everyday aches that come with carrying and caring for a child. Female physiotherapy is care built specifically around those changes.
Who this is for
- Pregnant women managing back pain, pelvic girdle pain, or preparing their body for delivery
- New mothers recovering after vaginal birth or C-section
- Anyone with pelvic floor concerns - leaking, heaviness, or discomfort
- Women with diastasis recti (abdominal separation) after pregnancy
- Women dealing with pelvic pain unrelated to pregnancy
Pregnancy-related care
As pregnancy progresses, the shifting centre of gravity and hormonal changes commonly cause lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain, and rib or hip discomfort. We assess how you’re moving and carrying the extra load, then build a plan of safe manual therapy and targeted exercise to ease pain and keep you comfortable and mobile through each trimester.
Postnatal recovery
The body needs real rehabilitation after delivery, not just time. Whether it was a vaginal birth or a C-section, the core and pelvic floor have been through significant change, and rebuilding that strength properly (rather than jumping straight back into general exercise) is what prevents longer-term problems like ongoing pelvic floor weakness or abdominal separation that never quite closes.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy
Pelvic floor issues, leaking with coughing or exercise, a feeling of heaviness, or pain, are common and genuinely treatable, not something to just live with. Assessment and treatment focus on retraining the pelvic floor muscles to work properly again, which for most women makes a real, measurable difference within a course of sessions.
Diastasis recti (abdominal separation)
It’s normal for the abdominal muscles to separate during pregnancy to make room for the growing baby. For some women that gap doesn’t close naturally afterward, which can affect core strength and cause lower back discomfort. A structured core rehabilitation programme, started at the right time and progressed correctly, is the most effective way to address it.
What to expect
Every assessment is private, unhurried and specific to where you are - pregnant, recently postnatal, or further along. We explain what we find clearly and build a plan that fits realistically into caring for a newborn or managing a busy pregnancy.
A private, comfortable space
We understand these conversations and examinations can feel sensitive, particularly for a first visit. Every assessment is conducted privately, with nothing done without a clear explanation first and your full comfort throughout, at a pace that’s entirely led by you.
Beyond pregnancy and postnatal care
Female physiotherapy isn’t only for pregnancy-related concerns. Pelvic floor issues, chronic pelvic pain, and core weakness can affect women at any stage of life, not exercising regularly, previous surgery, or simply years of unaddressed symptoms are all valid reasons to seek an assessment, whether or not pregnancy is part of the picture.
