Paediatric Physiotherapy
Children move, grow and develop at their own pace, but sometimes that pace needs a bit of support, whether that’s a delay in reaching a milestone, an awkward gait, or recovery after an injury. Paediatric physiotherapy is built around one simple idea: kids aren’t small adults, and neither is their therapy.
When paediatric physiotherapy helps
- Delayed motor milestones - sitting, crawling, walking later than expected
- Coordination and balance difficulties
- In-toeing, out-toeing, or an unusual walking pattern
- Recovery after a fracture, sprain or surgery
- Postural issues, including flat feet or rounded shoulders
- Conditions affecting movement, such as developmental coordination disorder or hypotonia
If you’ve noticed your child moving differently to other children their age, or a paediatrician or teacher has flagged a concern, that’s worth a proper assessment rather than a “wait and see.”
Play-based, not clinical
Children don’t respond well to being told to “do ten reps” the way an adult might. Paediatric physiotherapy uses games, movement challenges and activities that feel like play but are carefully chosen to build the specific strength, balance or coordination a child needs. A session might involve obstacle courses, ball games or balance activities rather than anything that looks like a typical exercise routine.
What an assessment involves
We watch how your child moves, plays and interacts with their environment, check strength, flexibility and coordination against expected milestones for their age, and talk to you about what you’ve noticed at home. Parents are involved throughout, since consistency between clinic visits and daily life is what actually drives progress.
Working alongside you
You know your child best. We build a home programme that fits into normal daily routines and family life, not an extra chore that gets skipped. Progress in children’s development is rarely a straight line, so we check in regularly and adjust the plan as your child grows and improves.
How progress is measured
We track progress against age-appropriate developmental benchmarks, not a generic checklist, since every child’s timeline is a little different. You’ll get honest, clear feedback at each visit: what’s improved, what still needs work, and roughly what timeframe to expect for the next milestone, so you’re never left guessing whether things are moving in the right direction.
When to trust your instinct as a parent
Parents are often the first to notice something is a little different about how their child moves, well before it’s flagged elsewhere, and that instinct is usually worth listening to. An assessment either confirms there’s nothing to worry about, which is itself valuable peace of mind, or catches something early enough that a short course of targeted therapy resolves it well before it becomes a bigger issue.
